Nina Roz Challenges Proposed 6% Withholding Tax on Artistes
Ugandan singer Nina Roz has weighed in on the government’s proposed 6% withholding tax on artistes’ earnings, raising concerns about how it could affect creatives.
Speaking on Sanyuka TV, the former National Unity Platform Sembabule District Woman MP aspirant addressed the plan, which would see event organisers deduct 6% from artistes’ performance fees before payment.
She stressed that taxation is not the main issue, but the lack of proper systems to support artistes in the industry.
They have not even regulated copyright, and now they want 6% off our earnings.

Nina Roz then pointed to the many costs artistes already carry, including paying their teams, transport, internet, audio production, and video production, noting that many of these expenses already attract taxes.
With that in mind, she argued that introducing another deduction without fixing key gaps only adds more pressure on creatives.
This government has not helped us enough to justify imposing more taxes on us.
She also acknowledged recent financial support extended to the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF), but maintained that it remains limited and does not reach many artistes, especially those outside major towns.
It would only be fair to impose taxes if our work were properly regulated. – @NinarozMusic#SanyukaUnCut #SanyukaUpdates #FFeBannoDdala pic.twitter.com/hfJPvXeNgk
