Nubian Li Joins Growing List of Entertainers Eyeing Political Office, Sets Sights on Nakawa Mayorship

Ugandan singer Nubian Li, born Buken Ali, has officially announced his intention to run for the Nakawa Mayorship in the 2026 general elections.

He made this declaration over the weekend during a burial ceremony, responding to NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, also known as Bobi Wine, who has frequently called for greater youth involvement in politics.

“As our president encourages us to step up if we have the ability to do so, I too am ready to stand for the position of Nakawa Mayor, and I kindly ask that you consider me when the time comes,” he stated.

Like Bobi Wine, Nubian Li has long been outspoken about the state of affairs in Uganda, using music as a platform to express his views.

His decision to enter politics is part of a wider trend of musicians in Uganda becoming increasingly active in politics.

He joins other entertainers such as Nina Roz, Big Eye, Shidy Stylo, Tuff B, and comedian Reign, all of whom have publicly declared their intentions to pursue political roles in the upcoming 2026 elections.
