Nyamutoro Assures All Creatives, Not Just Musicians, Will Benefit from Copyright Law

For years, Uganda’s creative industry has battled piracy, exploitation, and unfair pay.

Now, State Minister for Minerals, Phiona Nyamutoro, says a proposed amendment to the copyright law could change everything.

Speaking at the launch of President Yoweri Museveni’s music album at Speke Resort Munyonyo, Nyamutoro stressed that the law will benefit all creatives, not just musicians.

This law is not going to benefit only musicians. It will benefit all creatives in Uganda.

The Minister said the amendment will protect the works of creatives, encourage healthy competition, and raise the quality of Uganda’s creative output.

With this law in place, we are looking at protecting creative works, enhancing competitiveness, and improving quality so that Ugandan creatives can stand tall on the international stage.

Eddy Kenzo and the Uganda National Musicians Federation have long fought for reforms to end exploitation in the music industry.

As the bill moves through Parliament, there is growing optimism that the sector may finally receive the protection it needs.

Nyamutoro is confident the law will change the creative industry for the better.

I think this is a very good foundation that has been laid, and we cannot wait to see what the future holds.
