Omah Lay Claims Afrobeats Is Losing Global Momentum

Afrobeats may not be as strong abroad as it once was, according to Omah Lay.

Speaking at his Lagos Warehouse Session, the Nigerian singer sparked debate by saying the genre is losing its grip in Western countries.

He pointed to a clear shift from the global wave that peaked between 2020 and 2024.

While he acknowledged that Nigerian artistes are still doing well, he believes the overall sound and impact have changed.

Overseas, Afrobeats is declining. It is facts. Our artistes are doing really great but the Afrobeats that you guys used to know in 2020-2024, are not the Afrobeats you know now anymore.

Omah Lay also hinted at a solution.

He revealed he has been studying top artistes he admires, with plans to push a new direction.

He is confident his next moves will inspire others and help bring back the global momentum Afrobeats once enjoyed.
