Omah Lay Says Afrobeats Has Two Sides, Davido vs Wizkid

Omah Lay has stirred conversation after sharing his view on the state of the Afrobeats scene.

The Nigerian singer said the industry feels divided, with strong camps forming around Davido and Wizkid.

According to him, many players tend to align with one side or the other, which has shaped how the scene operates.

The whole Nigerian Afrobeats scene is very separated. It is like, if you are with Davido, you are on one side; if you are with Wizkid, you are on the other.

He also pointed to a personal decision he made in 2024 involving Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Davido.

Omah Lay said he stepped back from all three at the time because he was not comfortable with the direction they were setting for the industry.

Back in 2024, I actually unfollowed Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Davido. I felt like they started something with Afrobeats that we needed, but it was an old pattern.

Despite that, his connection with Davido later developed in a different way.

He explained that their collaboration came together smoothly and changed how he viewed the artiste on a personal level.

Omah Lay also addressed the public perception around Davido.

He suggested that the singer faces criticism tied to his wealthy background, even though his drive continues to push his career forward.
