Omah Lay Says He Tops All Nigerian Artistes in the Last 20 Years

Afrobeats star Omah Lay has set off fresh debate after making a bold claim about his place in the industry.

Speaking on the Nando Leaks podcast, the singer said he stands above every Nigerian artiste of the past two decades when it comes to making music.

His comments have quickly spread online, drawing mixed reactions from fans who are split between admiration and doubt.

While many artistes lean heavily on visuals and performance, Omah Lay pointed to his strength in crafting sound and emotion.

He admitted that visuals may not always define him, but believes his music alone puts him ahead.

I am the best when you put the whole Afrobeats category. I am not the strongest when it comes to visual maybe it due to my personality, I do not know. But when it comes to the art of making music, I am the best in the last 20 years.

Interestingly, he singled out Burna Boy as the only artiste he rates close to his level.

Even then, he made it clear he sees himself in a class of his own.

The only person I sometimes put myself with is Burna Boy. Burna is talented. Apart from Burna, it is me, even with Burna too, it is just me.

The statement has added fuel to ongoing conversations about greatness in Afrobeats, with fans now comparing styles, impact and consistency.
