Paddyman Praises Ugandan Producers but Points Out a Big Problem
Legendary producer Paddyman, born Paddy Kayiwa Mukasa, has praised several of his peers while also sending them a strong message about identity.
Speaking to Rewind, the hitmaker said Uganda has many talented music makers but noted that some struggle to stand out because their sounds are too similar.
There are very many good producers. BassBoi is good. Artin Pro is good. Josh Wonder is good. Emy Wonder is good. Nessim is good. The challenge is how they differ from each other, because some of them do not sound very different.
He believes the similarity comes from following trends instead of building a personal sound.
I think it comes from trends, with many of them trying to sound the same, but that is something I do not believe in. They need to work so hard that they do not sound similar. Producers should each have a unique identity.
Still, Paddyman believes they can compete internationally with the right support and mindset.
Yes, they can, if they are well facilitated. If they also take pride in what they do, they can compete with Nigerians and the rest of the world.
