Pallaso Challenges Ugandans to Transfer Their Love for the English Premier League to the Uganda Premier League

As Uganda ramps up preparations to co host the 2027 AFCON, more local voices are calling for a renewed focus on domestic sports support and industry localization.
Among those speaking out is singer Pallaso, who recently shared his perspective on how Uganda can reshape its sports culture and spark regional excitement.
In an interview, Pallaso emphasized the importance of localizing the sports industry and building regional collaborations to grow fan bases.
“If we have a boxing tournament between Uganda and Tanzania, then we attract both of their fans,” he said, pointing to how cross border competitions could boost visibility and attendance.
He also spoke about the deep passion Ugandans have for the English Premier League (EPL).
“Match days become communal events. People gather in homes and pubs, cheering for teams thousands of miles away,” he observed.
“Now imagine if that same energy was directed to our own Uganda Premier League.”
Pallaso went on to encourage local athletes, especially boxers, to prioritize building their legacy at home.
“Shine here first, earn your roots, then shine brighter abroad.”
Although his remarks were not part of the ongoing State of Ugandan Sport National Symposium, they align closely with the event’s broader theme of “Bridging the Gap.”
The symposium, which airs live on NBS Sport, Uganda’s 24/7 sports channel dedicated to local athletics, runs from June 17 to 18 at Next Media Park.
It brings together key stakeholders to explore practical solutions for elevating Uganda’s sports ecosystem.
