Phinah Masanyalaze Declares Bid for Female Workers Member of Parliament Seat
Singer-turned-activist Phinah Masanyalaze is trading the microphone for Parliament.
The music star has officially announced she is running for the Female Workers Member of Parliament seat.
After months of thinking it through, Masanyalaze says she is ready to fight for workers’ rights across Uganda.
She claims she already has the backing of several unions and feels confident about her chances.
This is a special interest seat representing workers. Their voices are heard in Parliament through delegates drawn from different unions. I believe I have built enough trust and support to serve in this capacity.
Masanyalaze says this move comes as she transitions away from music.
Having mentored young talent, she now wants to dedicate herself fully to advocacy and leadership.
I have given my best to music, but I believe it is time to create space for new talent while I dedicate myself to workers’ issues.
If elected, she promises to push hard for stronger labor unions and tackle the challenges facing employees nationwide.
