Pia Pounds Responds to Sendi’s Criticism: Sound Quality Affects Stage Performances

Pia Pounds shared on her X account that music critic Edward Sendi’s comment about her not knowing how to sing was hurtful, but she chose to take it as constructive advice to help her grow as an artiste.

She explained that many factors affect how artistes perform live, and it is not always because they lack talent.

One major issue, she pointed out, is poor sound quality.

According to her, bad sound equipment often makes it hard for artistes to hear themselves on stage, forcing them to strain their voices and deliver weak performances.

Pia Pounds also pointed out that microphone tests are usually done by the event presenter without music, which does not give a true picture of what it is like to perform in front of an audience.

She mentioned that her song “Tupaate,” which Sendi criticized, was recorded in a lower tone. This made it harder to perform live, especially with the poor sound, which forced her to shout.

Pia Pounds added that she and fellow artiste Azawi discussed these sound issues backstage at one of Mudra’s shows, agreeing that poor sound quality can seriously affect a performance.

Although Pia Pounds agreed that Sendi had a point, she wished his feedback had focused more on how bad sound systems make stage performances difficult for artistes.

Sendi’s comments followed her performance at Sheebah’s Neyanziza concert.
