Pinky Tells the Truth About Depression Among Artistes
Ugandan singer Pinky has made it clear that no amount of industry pressure will come before her well-being.
Speaking to YouTuber Shielah Price, the “Picha” star opened up about how the music industry pushes artistes to constantly prove their relevance at the expense of their sanity.
There are some musicians, and I believe they are the ones who mostly go into depression. They forget to take care of themselves and focus more on releasing music so that people know they still exist. Personally, that is not what I do.
She explained that for her, personal stability is more important than rushing to release songs.
I do not allow music to put me under pressure. I first make sure that I am fine, so that when someone looks at me they do not see someone who looks troubled and stressed. Someone has to look at me and be like, ‘she has not released music, but she is fine.’
Pinky noted that this choice is entirely her own and not influenced by management.
It comes from an individual loving themselves, prioritizing themselves, and taking care of themselves before they focus on anything else.
She added that her creativity is directly tied to her state of mind.
When I am stressed, nothing I do works. But when I am fine, everything I do just works out.
