Producer Rinex Links Vulgar Lyrics to Desperation in Music Industry

Veteran music producer Dr. Rinex has weighed in on the growing trend of vulgar music in the local industry, offering a blunt view on why some artistes choose that route.

Speaking to Sanyuka Uncut, he suggested that many musicians who rely on explicit lyrics are often chasing quick attention instead of working toward lasting careers.

According to Dr. Rinex, rather than focusing on creativity, growth, and consistency, some artistes target audiences they believe are easier to impress.

He added that this approach also signals desperation, particularly among musicians attempting to revive fading relevance.

There is what we call the kicks of a dying horse. I have seen artistes come to my studio with vulgar songs. What pushes them to sing such music is their search for a shortcut to a comeback. Most people who make that kind of music are looking for an easy audience to tap into.

Towards the end of 2024 and the start of 2025, public concern over the rise of vulgar music reached a boiling point.

The backlash sparked widespread debate across the industry and beyond, eventually prompting the Uganda Communications Commission to step in and ban several songs from airplay.
