Prof. Gilbert Bukenya Advises Stecia Mayanja Against Wasting Money on Politics
Former Vice President Prof. Gilbert Bukenya has advised singer Stecia Mayanja to reconsider her political ambitions, urging her to invest her money in business rather than pursue the presidency.
Stecia was recently unveiled as the President of the newly rebranded National Peasants Party (NPP) and is set to run for president in the 2026 general elections.
However, Bukenya says he is more concerned than impressed by her political aspirations.
He warned that turning serious leadership roles into a public spectacle could have dangerous consequences for the country.
Ugandans should stop treating politics and leadership as a joke. Running for president is not something to play around with.
Bukenya also cast doubt on Stecia’s chances of electoral success, urging her not to waste money on what he believes will be a failed campaign.
I heard the government will not be supporting presidential candidates financially, so why should she waste her money? Even here in the village of Naguru, she cannot get 50 votes. How will she manage to campaign across the whole country?
He concluded by calling on entertainers to refrain from political involvement and leave leadership to the capable.
We need to leave the leadership of the country to those who can actually manage it.
