Reign Hits Back at Rumors of Hurt After NUP Snub

Popular Ugandan comedian Reign, real name Obed Lubega, has finally spoken out after losing the National Unity Platform (NUP) card for Rubaga South Member of Parliament to Eugenia Nassolo.

The loss sparked online speculation, with many suggesting that Reign was deeply hurt and even considering leaving the party.

Now, the comedian has addressed the rumors head-on, putting them to rest.

Speaking to Sanyuka Uncut, Reign quickly dismissed claims that missing out on the ticket had affected him.

Missing out on the NUP card did not hurt me. People exaggerated the whole situation. My support for positive change remains the same, with or without a piece of plastic.

He also addressed speculation that he might pursue an independent political bid, firmly denying those claims.

I am not going independent. Let us clear that up. I am still aligned with the causes I believe in. I did not switch sides. I did not declare myself solo. That talk is just noise.

Reign further weighed in on the 2020 Uganda Shillings 6.6 billion stimulus package the government had set aside for artists and creatives affected by the COVID 19 pandemic.

He confirmed that he did not receive his share but called for fairness rather than conflict.

I did not receive what I was owed. But I am not here to attack anyone. I just want transparency and fairness in the industry.

Reign also voiced his support for Alex Muhangi following his recent election as President of The Uganda Comedians Association (TUCA).

I am fully backing the new comedy committee. It is time we organize ourselves better, with better pay, better opportunities, and more respect for comedians. I am ready to contribute however I can.
