Rex Omar Says 97% of Ghanaian Musicians Are Not Making Money
Ghanaian highlife musician Rex Omar has raised concerns about the state of the country’s music industry.
Speaking during a televised interview with George Quaye on Joy Prime, the Chairman of Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO) said Ghana is not properly structured to support musicians.
He stated that 97% of Ghanaian artistes are not making money from their craft.
According to Rex Omar, many young people enter music out of passion after seeing a few visible success stories.
However, he said the business systems needed to sustain them are largely absent.
He added that without a solid commercial framework, most musicians struggle to survive long term in the industry.
The veteran performer described the situation as a major structural challenge facing Ghana’s creative arts sector.
