Rickman Admits Music Was Never the Dream, Reveals His True Passion
Rickman Manrick has dropped a revelation that could leave fans questioning everything they thought they knew about his music journey.
Despite being widely regarded as one of the standout artistes of his generation, the “Bango” hitmaker says music has never been his true passion.
Instead, he insists that football has always been his first love.

Speaking on Diaspora Connect UG, Rickman revealed that his entry into music was never planned.
According to him, it only happened after a serious knee injury brought his football career to a sudden halt.
My first official song came out at the start of 2018, but I began showing interest in music in 2017 after I injured my knee and tore my ACL. I was to be out for a year without playing football. I am not really into music like that. I am a football person. Even now, music does not put me under pressure because it is not my passion. It is not something I dreamed of doing from childhood. I will not lie. Music is something I started doing out of the blue. I was always a football player. Even now, I regard myself more as a football player than a musician.
Ironically, Rickman has achieved more recognition, success, and visibility through music than he ever did on the football pitch.
Still, he says the sport remains closest to his heart.
For him, football was a lifeline that opened doors and provided opportunities that played a major role in shaping his life.
Football is my first love. It is something I am really proud of. I studied on bursaries because of football. I boarded planes because of football. Football did everything for me.
While music may not be his original dream, Rickman admits it has given him something valuable.
Beyond hits and headlines, he says the connections he has made along the way mean the most to him.
I am very proud of my musical journey because I have met so many people through it.
