Romanian Court Convicts Wiz Khalifa for Cannabis Offence
Wiz Khalifa has been hit with a nine-month prison sentence in Romania over a drug offence tied to a concert last year.
The American rapper, real name Cameron Jibril Thomaz, was arrested in July 2024 after allegedly smoking cannabis during a live show at a music festival in Costinești, a resort town on the Black Sea.
He was briefly held before being released and later apologized, saying he meant no disrespect to Romanian laws or culture.
Originally, the court fined him about $690, but prosecutors appealed, insisting the offence deserved jail time.
The appellate court agreed, handing down a nine-month custodial sentence. Under Romanian law, the ruling is final.
Wiz Khalifa is currently in the United States, and it is unclear whether Romania will try to extradite him.
There is also no word yet on whether the sentence will actually be enforced.
Romania has strict drug laws, banning cannabis for any purpose, making this a serious legal matter for the rapper.
