Ronald Mayinja Urges Today’s Music Awards to Pick A Leaf From the PAM Awards
Singer and songwriter Ronald Mayinja reflected on the PAM Awards and their significance in Uganda’s music scene, explaining that the awards had a unique process in which the public, musicians, and judges all played a role in selecting the winners.
First, the judges would vote, followed by the public, who had the opportunity to vote for their favorite artists in places like shops and markets.
This made the competition feel like a nationwide event, with people from all over the country participating.
The “Tuli Kubunkenke” hit maker mentioned that the competition was intense, and artistes had to work hard to stand out.
However, he believes that once the PAM Awards ended, the drive to compete faded, which negatively impacted the music industry.
He suggested that to revive the healthy competition that once existed, awards like the HiPipo Music Awards should involve the public more, taking a page from the PAM Awards.
Mayinja believes that greater public engagement could boost excitement and motivate musicians to perform at their best.
He noted that reviving the energy of the PAM Awards era could help improve the music industry and inspire artistes to work harder for success.
Regarding the HiPipo Music Awards, Mayinja shared that this year’s edition was his first time attending, even though he had heard about the event for some time. He mentioned that he has a positive impression of them.
