Sabinus Reveals How His Father Once Rejected His Comedy
Nigerian comedian Emmanuel Ejekwu, known to many as Sabinus, has shared how difficult his early path into comedy was. He opened up during a chat with VJ Adams, explaining that his father never supported the idea at the beginning.
Sabinus said his father wanted him to become a lawyer and encouraged him to keep applying for law programs. He tried several times without success, and the repeated rejections pushed him to choose Linguistics and Communication Studies at the University of Port Harcourt.
He said that everything changed once he got to campus. That was where he first discovered skit making. He began creating short videos and posting them online. Even though there was no real income at the time, he continued because he enjoyed the work and felt he was building something.
According to him, he finished school and kept his comedy activities away from his father. He said the truth came out a year later when his image started appearing on show posters. His sisters confirmed it, and the discovery caused tension at home because his father felt comedy offered no real future.
Sabinus said the situation shifted only after he began earning steady income from his craft. He used part of his earnings to support his father, and this helped rebuild the relationship. With time, his father accepted the career that once caused conflict.
