Samklef Claims He Owns Six Tracks From Wizkid’s Superstar Album
More than a decade after its release, Superstar has returned to the spotlight following comments from Nigerian producer Samklef.
The project, released by Wizkid in 2011, helped shape modern Afrobeats and launched the singer’s career.
However, Samklef now claims some of the songs were recorded in his studio without payment for the sessions.
He also suggested the absence of a formal agreement at the time could allow the matter to be revisited.
The producer added that he may discuss the issue with Banky W, whose label Empire Mates Entertainment released the album.
Samklef further alleged that he owns six tracks from the project’s masters because the studio sessions were never paid for.
Whether the claim carries legal weight remains unclear.
Thank God I never used my masters to collect any loan.
I’m about to negotiate with @BankyW since I didn’t sign any contract from the beginning. I hope the Wizkid Superstar masters were never sold.
