Sammie and Shawa Apologize After Bobi Wine Skit Faces Criticism
Comic duo Sammie and Shawa faced criticism for a skit that appeared to poke fun at Bobi Wine following his injury during a police confrontation in Bulindo.
Although they initially defended their work as harmless humor, the backlash intensified, prompting comedian Teacher Mpamire to condemn the trend of turning serious matters into jokes.
In response, Sammie and Shawa issued a public apology on Facebook.
They admitted that their skit was hurtful and expressed regret for any distress it may have caused.
The duo emphasized that their intent was to entertain, not offend, and committed to being more sensitive in their future work.
Sammie and Shawa wrote on their Facebook page:
“Hey everyone, We want to take a moment to apologize for our recent performance about Principal Bobi Wine. We realized that our skit was hurtful, and for that, we are truly sorry. Please note that our intention wasn’t to hurt anyone, but to express our creativity and humor as comedians. Thanks for your support, and we appreciate your love. Thank you for holding us accountable and for being part of our journey. We’re committed to making you laugh and entertain you, while also being sensitive to the experiences and feelings of all individuals and groups.”
