Sarz Recalls Being Exploited Early in His Career
Nigeria producer and singer Sarz has opened up about being unpaid early in his career.
Speaking on the Afropolitan Podcast, he said several popular artistes recorded songs with him and released them without paying.
At the time, he was still building his name and felt he lacked the leverage to challenge them.
He recalled one incident involving a major artist who allegedly refused to pay for two tracks.
When Sarz tried to withhold the session files for one song, the artiste reportedly threatened to release a demo version.
Not wanting a rough version of his production in circulation, Sarz handed over the files, but says he was never paid.
After that experience, he decided he would no longer work with artistes who could not meet his fee, even if it affected his reputation.
He says his position improved after producing Condo by GreenHouse, which strengthened his credibility and demand.
