Sebatta Hits Back at Kenzo Over Remarks on Veteran Artistes
Veteran Kadongo Kamu singer Lord Fred Sebatta has expressed frustration after remarks by Eddy Kenzo about older artistes stirred debate in the music industry.
In a recent interview, Kenzo compared generations of Ugandan musicians, saying many from the earlier era struggled to build stable lives despite their efforts, while crediting his generation with changing the industry’s image and pushing professionalism.
Sebatta said he later watched a circulating clip from the interview and confirmed it was genuine, a moment he described as deeply upsetting.
At first, I thought the video was AI-generated. But after verifying it, I realized it was truly Eddy Kenzo speaking. It hurt me deeply, and I am still saddened. However, I am waiting to see what happens next.
Beyond the initial reaction, Sebatta dismissed the claims and pointed to the conditions his generation worked under, saying they relied on personal sacrifice to sustain the industry.
He added that the impact of that era still follows him, revealing that he continues to service a loan of 260 million UGX with high interest.
He stressed that the issue goes beyond personal hurt, insisting that veteran artistes built the foundation of Uganda’s music industry and deserve recognition, not dismissal.
