Selecta Jef Explains Why DJs Go Global More Easily Than Musicians
Selecta Jef is stirring conversation again, this time weighing in on why DJs tend to break through internationally more easily than musicians.
Speaking on NBS After 5, the popular DJ said the flexibility to play trending songs from any country gives DJs a major advantage.
For a DJ to go international, it is kind of easy. It is easier for us than for the artistes. I am not going to play my own music. If I am in Cyprus, Jamaica, or anywhere else, I have no limits.
He contrasted this with musicians, who rely on their own songs, and that can be a challenge if the audience does not know them.
Musicians, for example if it is Elijah, he only has to perform his music, and people need to know his songs for them to vibe.
Selecta Jef also explained how DJs tailor their sets to any crowd which strengthens their appeal.
I will know what the top 100 songs are in the UK, and I will play exactly those songs while there. That is how we do it. If I go to Burundi, I know what is trending there, and I will play that. So it is easy for DJs to market themselves.
