Selecta Jeff Says It Is Time for Ugandan Music to Speak Out
Ugandan DJ Selecta Jeff has called on musicians to move beyond love songs and party anthems, urging them to address the real struggles people are facing.
Posting on X, Jeff insisted that artistes should give a voice to those who cannot speak and that music should reflect the full picture of society, whether positive or negative.
According to him, music in Uganda cannot be solely for enjoyment. It must also inspire change and serve as a tool for revolution.
He acknowledged that his views might attract criticism but stressed the importance of encouraging musicians to adopt a more socially conscious approach.
Jeff also clarified that his message is not political.
The post quickly drew attention on social media, with some users supporting the idea that music should reflect society, while others felt the message carried political undertones.
