Serena Williams Turns to Weight Loss Injections After Struggle Post Babies
Retirement has not slowed Serena Williams. Instead of stepping away quietly, the tennis superstar is opening up about her health after motherhood.
After giving birth to Olympia in 2017 and Adira River in 2023, Serena found that no amount of running, training, or dieting could get her body back to where she wanted. The methods that worked during her tennis career no longer made a difference.
She eventually turned to weekly GLP 1 injections through the telehealth company Ro. Since starting, she has lost more than 31 pounds, feels lighter, has more energy, and says her knees no longer ache as much. Serena also works with Ro as a spokesperson, while her husband Alexis Ohanian serves on the board.
For her, the treatment is about health, not appearance. After her second baby, weight loss stalled, and she wanted to feel active again rather than be limited by pain.
The tennis legend also spoke about body image, saying women should love themselves at any size.
Her openness matters. Many mothers face similar struggles, and Serena joins public figures like Oprah Winfrey and Meghan Trainor in speaking honestly about using GLP 1 medication.
These drugs, including Ozempic, Wegovy, Zepbound, and Mounjaro, were first made for diabetes but are now used for weight management.
They suppress appetite and improve how the body handles food. While some people report nausea or stomach upset, Serena says she has had no side effects.
Doctors note that results may fade if treatment stops, so medical supervision is important.
Serena Williams may be retired from the court, but she is still changing the conversation. This time it is about women’s health and the choices mothers make for their wellbeing.
