Shakira Shakiraa Calls Out Fake Friendships and Hypocrisy Among Musicians
Ugandan singer Shakira Shakiraa, real name Shakira Kamulegeya Kyebalaba, has opened up about why she keeps her circle in the music industry small.
During a sit down with Tawfiq Media, it became clear that she has only a handful of artiste friends, among them Winnie Nwagi and Ritah Dancehall.
Beyond that limited circle, she chooses caution over closeness, describing the industry as a space where not everyone is genuine.
I fear musicians. They are fake friends. A musician is someone who will tell you they love you to your face, but when they leave, they express how they really feel and how much they hate you.

To explain why she feels that way, Shakira shared an experience that left a lasting impression on her.
There was a musician I was with. We were somewhere, and they were talking about another musician, abusing and backbiting them to the point that I was convinced they would poison them if they got the chance.
What unsettled her was the sudden shift that followed.
But not even a week passed before I saw that same musician on the news with the one they had been abusing, showing them love and giving them birthday gifts. So I fear musicians because they are terrible people.
For Shakira, the contradiction between private insults and public affection was enough to change how she views industry relationships.
She added that many musicians form friendships based on what they can gain.
They only befriend you when it is beneficial to them. They see you as content that is going to propel them. That is fake friendship.
As a result, she now limits her trust to a small circle and keeps the rest strictly on a hi-hi basis.
