Shakira Shakiraa Eyes Kampala Woman MP Seat, Vows to Fight for Women and Children

Since singer Bobi Wine, whose real name is Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, ventured into politics, many entertainers in Uganda have followed suit, with several others aspiring to do the same.

The latest to join this growing list is singer Shakira Kamulegeya, popularly known as Shakira Shakiraa, who has announced her interest in contesting for the Kampala Woman Member of Parliament seat.

Speaking in a media interview, she explained that her decision to enter politics is driven by her strong desire to make a difference.

She shared that one of her biggest dreams is to uplift the people of Uganda, especially women.

Shakiraa emphasized that women continue to face significant oppression, an issue she is determined to address if elected.

She also pointed out the lack of strong female representation in leadership and stressed the need for more aggressive advocacy for women’s rights.

Beyond that, she expressed her commitment to supporting underprivileged children and taking a firm stand against men who neglect their parental responsibilities.

Dismissing any doubts about her seriousness, she extended an open invitation to any political party willing to support her candidacy.

Regarding campaign funding, she confidently stated that she is financially capable of handling expenses such as posters, rallies, and other campaign-related costs.

As for her qualifications, she assured the public that she possesses credentials exceeding the minimum requirements for the position.

Responding to scrutiny over her dress code, especially during performances, Shakira Shakiraa stated that once she embarks on her political journey, she will adopt attire appropriate for the role.
