Sheilah Gashumba Blames Traditional Parenting for Unhealthy Relationship Beliefs
Ugandan socialite, DJ, and influencer Sheilah Gashumba has sparked widespread debate online after sharing frank views on relationships, marriage, and the expectations society places on women.
In a series of posts, Gashumba challenged women who tell others to “lock their men at home,” arguing that attraction and loyalty are matters of personal choice.
She said interest cannot be controlled and that women should not blame others for attention their partners willingly give, insisting that genuine connection cannot be forced.
She also questioned how relationship labels are used, calling for a clear distinction between legal marriage and simply having children together.
According to Gashumba, sharing children does not automatically translate into marriage status or place anyone on a higher moral ground.
Turning to modern relationships, she criticized what she described as transactional unions, suggesting that some couples stay together for comfort, security, or future benefits rather than love.
She challenged the belief that having children or remaining in unhappy marriages guarantees loyalty or long term happiness.
Gashumba emphasized the need for open mindedness, noting that while many people can have children, the real challenge lies in choosing one another daily, communicating, and building mutual happiness.
She also pointed out that some couples deliberately delay having children or choose not to have them at all.
She concluded by blaming traditional parenting, saying it conditions many women to believe that having a child will secure a man or that marriage must be endured even when it becomes unhappy.
