Shola Allyson Explains Why She Rarely Mentions Jesus in Her Songs
Shola Allyson has revealed why she does not always mention Jesus in her music.
The veteran Nigerian artiste, often called a gospel singer, faced criticism online earlier this year after fans noticed that some of her songs do not reference Jesus directly.
Many questioned why a singer in the gospel genre would avoid mentioning his name.
During a recent interview on Oyinmomo TV, Allyson explained that she never set out to be a religious singer.
She identifies simply as a singer and does not feel obligated to promote anyone in her music.
I am not a religious singer. As I am, I have never introduced myself as a gospel singer. My name is Shola Allyson. I am a singer.
She added that Jesus never asked her to include his name in her songs or to act as his promoter.
Jesus did not instruct us to mention his name in songs nor did Jesus ask us to do PR for Him.
The singer has consistently focused on creating music that connects with listeners rather than following strict labels.
She also made it clear that she will not allow public opinion to influence the way she expresses herself through her art.
For Shola Allyson, music is about her voice and message, not about following the expectations of others.
