Singer and songwriter Geoffrey Nkwanga, popularly known as Dokta Brain, has shared insights into his journey in the music industry, emphasizing the essential role of songwriting in the success of artistes.
While appearing on Sanyuka Television, Dokta Brain revealed that his initial foray into music was driven by a desire to promote his own songs.
However, his talent for songwriting soon turned into a lucrative profession.
“Music chose me. I did not know I would become a writer. I thought I was just writing my own songs,” he said.
The songwriter highlighted the financial potential in writing songs, explaining that it has long been a paying profession but requires vigilance to ensure fair treatment.
“There is money in writing songs. From time immemorial, writers were being paid, but you also have to fight for your rights. If you do not, nobody minds. They will support those who are already established,” Dokta Brain noted.
Acknowledging the challenges songwriters face, he stressed the importance of standing firm to demand fair compensation.
“I was not writing for artists; I was writing to get money so I could promote my songs, and later it became a job. There is no way one can fail to pay me for writing them a song unless otherwise,” he stated.
Dokta Brain expressed pride in his professionalism, emphasizing that no one has ever failed to pay him for his work, a testament to the value he places on his craft and its contribution to the industry.
