Sipapa’s Defense Counsel Henry Kunya Confident of Court Victory in Ongoing Robbery Case
By Arthur Bogere Kazibwe
On July 23, 2025, Ugandan socialite Charles Olimi, alias Sipapa, and his wife Shamirah Nakiyemba appeared at the Anti-Corruption Court in Kampala for the second day of cross-examination of a police officer witness in their aggravated robbery and money laundering case.
The hearing focused on the officer’s account of the investigation into the alleged robbery of $429,000 (approximately 1.6 billion Ugandan Shillings) and other items from South Sudanese national Jacob Arok on August 28, 2022.
Senior Counsel Henry Kunya, Sipapa’s lawyer, completed cross-examining all prosecution witnesses presented so far and expressed strong confidence, stating:
The ball is now in the judge’s court. I believe we have a strong case, and I am confident that we will win.
This follows a High Court inspection of exhibits, including five luxury vehicles, counterfeit gold, jewelry, car rims, and U.S. dollars, at Kabalagala Police Station on July 21, 2025.
No ruling was reported for July 23, and the case awaits further judicial evaluation.
