Solome Basuuta Says Attention Is Key to Appreciating Her Music
It is not that singer and vocal coach Solome Basuuta does not want her music to become widely popular; she does.
However, she also understands that the kind of music she creates, rich in bluesy and jazzy flavors, is not the sort that typically makes an instant splash.
It is the kind of sound, she believes, that grows on listeners over time.
Often referred to as the “Queen of Love,” Solome shared in a media interview that Ugandans tend to lean toward high-energy, thumping music.
That, however, is not what she offers.
“My music requires one to sit down and listen,” she said, adding, “To the Ugandan ear, I am in the line of Maurice Kirya and Kenneth Mugabi.”
And just like their music, which took time to connect with audiences, she believes hers is on a similar journey.
