Song Theft Runs Wild in Afrobeats, Says Mr Real

Afrobeats may be taking the world by storm, but according to Mr Real, the genre is crawling with theft.

Both upcoming and veteran artistes are losing their songs and no one is safe.

In a heated Hip TV interview, the ‘Legbegbe’ star did not hold back.

He says originality is almost nonexistent and claims upcoming artists get hit the hardest, often losing their work to bigger names with no one to fight for them.

Blackface dey always complain say dem steal him song. Afrobeats no get original songs, even Rema fit steal Omah Lay song. You see idea wey bad if you no sharp, omo boys go run am. No time.

Mr Real also accused veteran artistes of hypocrisy, pointing out that even those who publicly complain about plagiarism sometimes use other artists’ work without permission.

Stealing of songs happens more between upcoming artists & top artistes but the upcoming no get fans to speak for them. There’s no original song in Afrobeats. Even the one shouting ‘they stole my song’ don still copy person own.

For Mr Real, the message is simple. Afrobeats is a jungle. Artistes must stay alert or risk losing their songs.

Until proper protections exist, song theft will continue to haunt the industry.
