Spice Diana Tells Young Musicians How to Rise Without Rivalry

It is not unusual for younger artistes to clash with older, more established musicians.

In the fast-paced music industry, comparisons, rivalries, and social media spats often dominate headlines, with some younger stars feeling the need to prove themselves by dissing their seniors.

But Ugandan singer Spice Diana, whose real name is Namukwaya Hajara Diana, sees things differently.

For her, respect, learning from experience, and focusing on one’s own growth are far more important than trying to compete or start drama.

During a sit-down with YouTuber Kaiyz, she was asked what advice she would give to a young female artiste who disses her on TV.

Her response was sincere, reflective, and full of guidance.

Girl, you have a long way to go. A long way to go. Just do your thing. Be you.

Spice Diana went on to stress the importance of respecting experience and learning from those who have been in the industry longer.

Most times I never wanted to be compared to musicians who were there before me. I used to say, do not compare someone’s two years of work to someone’s three months. Do not compare five years to one year. It is always about experience, and it is a long journey. Someone has seen many things and learned many things. You just have to learn from them and consult them so that you do not make the same mistakes they made.

She also encouraged young artistes to seek advice from experienced musicians to avoid stumbling in their careers.

If you connect with a musician who has been there before you and get the chance to receive their advice on certain things, you will not crash. It will be a better journey for you.

Addressing the rivalry mindset, Spice Diana made it clear that competing with others does not make anyone better.

But some people, because they want to be like you, feel like they have to fight you and compete with you. But that does not make you better. It does not make you me.

She concluded by saying that one can do their own thing and still be good.
