Teacher Mpamire Calls for Respect in Comedy

The debate over comedy’s boundaries is heating up, with comedians often facing backlash for crossing lines that some believe should remain untouched.

Criticism frequently targets comics who use vulgar language or make light of serious topics.

Recently, popular comedian Herbert Ssegujja, known as Teacher Mpamire, took to Facebook to voice his frustration, criticising some fellow comedians for turning everything into a joke.

He posted, “Not everything should be turned into Comedy. Let’s have respect for comedy! We have invested a lot in this Fraternity.”

His comments come amid controversy involving comic duo Sammie and Shawa, who face backlash for mocking Bobi Wine’s injury, allegedly caused by a teargas canister during a clash between his team and the police in Bulindo, Wakiso District.

Despite the criticism, Sammie and Shawa show no remorse and insist on continuing their comedic work.
