Tems Becomes First African Female Artiste With Seven Billboard Hot 100 Hits
Number 93 may not seem dramatic at first glance, but this week it carries historic weight for Tems.
Her song “What You Need” debuted on the U.S Billboard Hot 100, marking her seventh appearance on the chart.
With that entry, the Nigerian Grammy winner becomes the first African female artiste to reach seven placements on the Billboard Hot 100.
The achievement places her alongside Burna Boy and South African band Seether, who also hold seven entries each.
Tems is no stranger to breaking records.
In 2022, she became the first African artiste to debut at number one on the chart through her collaboration with Future and Drake on “Wait For U.”
Looking ahead, Tems is already eyeing another Billboard entry.
She features on J. Cole’s “Bunce Road Blues” alongside Future, a track tipped to debut on the Hot 100 next week.
If it lands, Tems will surge past Burna Boy and Seether to stand alone as the African artiste with the most Billboard Hot 100 entries.
