The Grammys Are Not for Everyone, Says Zani Lady C After Submitting Song for Consideration

Uganda singer Zani Lady C has shared her excitement about submitting her song “Komawo” for Grammy consideration in the Best African Music Performance category.

“I did not just wake up and think about the Grammys. Every musician in the world, from any continent, thinks about one thing: the Grammy, because it is the topmost honor in music,” she said.

She elaborated on her journey, saying, “Attempting to win a Grammy is something I have thought about for quite some time, asking myself, ‘When will I get there?’”

Her agent presented her with a deal involving a company that could assist with the submission process, and she decided to move forward.

“Most artistes do not have the abilities or the right connections to submit their music for the Grammys,” she noted, highlighting how many artistes, including some of Uganda’s biggest names, struggle with this aspect.

According to her, the Grammys are not for everyone.

Zani explained the qualifications necessary for Grammy submissions: “The music must have been produced within the last one to two years; it must be of good quality; and you must be a serious artiste, among other requirements.”

She also emphasized the international reach of her song, stating, “Beyond Uganda, my song ‘Komawo’ has gained traction worldwide because I uploaded it on all online music platforms.”

Reassuring her fans, she said, “I have always been dedicated to music; I never left and will never leave. My fans can rest assured that more music is on the way, and I appreciate their continued support.”

To her fellow musicians, Zani offered encouragement: “Do not lose hope; you too can achieve your dreams. It is not an overnight journey, but take one step at a time, and you will get there.”
