Tiwa Savage Confesses She Did Not Like “Dorobucci” at First
Afrobeats star Tiwa Savage has revealed that she almost rejected Mavin Records’ hit “Dorobucci.”
In an interview with NotJustOkay, she said Don Jazzy first played her an early version of the song in Dubai during her wedding, and she thought it sounded terrible.
When she returned to Nigeria and heard the final version, she was surprised by how much it had improved.
Tiwa said she could not believe it was the same track and admitted she doubted Don Jazzy’s vision.
Even then, she was unsure about joining the project and was the last Mavin artiste to record her verse.
“Dorobucci” went on to become one of the biggest Afrobeats songs of its time, cementing the success of Marvin Records.
Reflecting on the hit, Tiwa praised Don Jazzy’s creativity and credited him for turning a song she once disliked into a classic.
