Tragedy at Nyayo Stadium as Fan Dies During Nigerian Singer’s Show

Chaos broke out at Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi on Saturday, December 20, during a concert by Nigerian singer Asake, leaving one young woman dead.

The crowd surged as fans pushed closer to the stage, triggering a deadly stampede.

The victim, 20-year-old Karen Lojore, was rushed to Nairobi West Hospital after paramedics attempted emergency resuscitation at the scene.

She was later pronounced dead.

Concert organizers, Tukutane Entertainment, confirmed the tragedy on social media, saying they are cooperating with authorities to determine how the incident occurred.

This is not the first time a show by the same artist has faced deadly crowd surges.

In December 2022, 33-year-old Nigerian mother of two Rebecca Ikumelo died during a similar stampede at a concert in London’s Brixton O2 Academy.

The latest incident has reignited concerns about crowd management at large music events, with fans and safety officials calling for stricter measures to prevent future tragedies.

Authorities continue to investigate the events at Nyayo National Stadium to understand what went wrong and how such accidents can be avoided.
