Ugandan Hip-Hop Has Talent, But No Audience — Tracy Melon
Ugandan vocalist Tracy Melon has shared her thoughts on the current state of hip-hop in Uganda.
Speaking to Nile Sqoop, she observed that although there are many hip-hop artistes in the country, only a few have managed to break through.
The “Ogenda Kukilaba” singer believes this is largely due to a lack of appreciation for the genre among Ugandan music fans.
I think hip-hop is generally a genre that Ugandans do not understand. Most people do not really get it.
She added that even with talented artistes, the limited audience restricts growth and recognition.
It still would not make sense to have great hip-hop artistes when the audience is really small.
Still, she acknowledged the quality of the music being made.
Generally, the hip-hop is nice. There are few artistes, though, but I understand why. It is because they do not have much of an audience.
