Ugandan Musicians Are Dead People Walking – A Pass
Ugandan musician and songwriter Alexander Bagonza, better known as A Pass, expressed serious concerns about the current state of Ugandan music.
He believes that the main issue lies not in the music itself, but in the musicians, whom he describes as “dead people walking.”
He feels that many artists are simply going through the motions and do not truly care about their craft or music in general.
According to A Pass, much of today’s music lacks depth and fails to uplift listeners or provide solutions to their problems.
He described a troubling trend in the industry, where a lot of music is just “vibes” with little substance.
While he acknowledges that some artistes are creating meaningful music, he mentioned that they do not receive the recognition they deserve.
A Pass referenced his own 42-track album, which has received mixed reactions, stating that while some listeners praise it, others criticize it.
He respects differing opinions, recognizing that everyone views music from their own perspective. Nevertheless, he stands firm in his belief that his album is one of the best Ugandan albums ever.
A Pass also recognized the talent of artistes like Lamu and Dokta Brain, whom he believes are making good music, and expressed a desire to be part of their journeys.
However, he feels that there are not enough musicians who genuinely care about making good music.
He believes that the ongoing issues in Ugandan music stem from musicians not having the soul and desire to craft meaningful songs.
