UNCC Takes Action Against Gravity Omutujju And Lil Pazo for Vulgarity, Cautions Other Entertainers

The Uganda National Cultural Centre (UNCC) has taken a firm stance against the rising vulgarity in the music industry.

During a media address, Phina ‘Masanyalaze’ Mugerwa, Vice Chairperson of the UNCC Board of Trustees, expressed concern over the decline in societal norms and values, particularly among musicians.

She highlighted that musicians, as influential figures, have a responsibility to lead by example.

However, some have chosen a negative path, promoting vulgarity through their music and stage performances.

Phina Masanyalaze criticized the increasing trend of artistEs performing in revealing outfits, stating that such actions undermine the dignity of women and erode societal respect.

She mentioned that musicians Gravity Omutujju and Lil Pazo were summoned by the UNCC to discuss their controversial music but failed to respond.

As a consequence, the UNCC has blacklisted these artistes and taken measures to ensure they face repercussions.

This blacklist will be enforced through event promoters and media outlets, with the police instructed not to authorize any shows featuring the blacklisted artistes.

Masanyalaze further announced that the UNCC would continue blacklisting musicians and entertainers who fail to uphold societal values, norms, and decency.

The crackdown will extend beyond the UNCC’s efforts. The Police, Ministry of Ethics and Integrity, and Uganda Communications Commission will summon these artistes to clarify their intentions.

“Perhaps their music is being misunderstood, but we need clarity,” she noted.

Additionally, the UNCC has warned event promoters against supporting artistes who fail to respect societal values. Any event featuring blacklisted musicians will be denied approval.

Sponsors, particularly telecommunications companies, have also been urged to cease funding events or shows for artistes producing vulgar content.

Masanyalaze appealed to politicians, cultural leaders, and government agencies to distance themselves from artistes promoting indecency.

She stressed the importance of safeguarding Uganda’s cultural values and ensuring the entertainment industry contributes positively to society.

The UNCC reaffirmed its commitment to identifying and taking action against any artiste or entertainer undermining these values, as part of its mission to protect and promote Uganda’s cultural heritage.
