Uncle Chumi Rejects Copyright and Refuses to Learn About It

Uncle Chumi stood out at a high profile dinner hosted by Justice Minister Norbert Mao, but not for the reasons many expected.

The event, held in Lubowa, brought together creatives to mark progress on the Copyright and Neighbouring Rights (Amendment) Bill, 2025, which Parliament passed but still awaits presidential assent.

While many attendees focused on what the bill could mean for the industry, Chumi took a different approach.

In her usual humorous style, the controversial singer admitted she does not understand copyright, and said some fellow artistes are in the same position.

I do not understand it. Even Lil Pazo, Chance Nalubega, and Hajj Haruna. They all do not know it.

While she could easily learn about it, the “Gwokute Gwobba” hitmaker made it clear she has no interest in doing so.

I do not want to understand it. It is not that we are going to support everything that comes. Personally, I do not want it.

When asked why she attended an event centered on the copyright bill, she gave a very blunt answer.

I came to eat food.
