Vinka Highlights Unhealthy Competition and Fights as Major Challenges in the Industry, Beyond Copyright
Singer Veronica Lugya, alias Vinka, has welcomed the introduction of the Copyright Management System, a new initiative designed to ensure musicians receive fair compensation for their work.
The system, recently approved by President Museveni, will track the airplay of Ugandan music in bars, radio stations, and TV channels, guaranteeing that artistes earn from their music.
Vinka believes this is a positive step for the industry, as it promises extra income for musicians who have long struggled with copyright issues.
However, she remains cautious, hoping and praying that the system functions as stated it would.
While acknowledging the importance of copyright protection, the singer noted in a media chat that it is not the only issue affecting Uganda’s entertainment industry.
She highlighted unnecessary beefs, fights, and unhealthy competition among musicians as other challenges that need to be addressed.
According to her, the industry needs more than just copyright protection to achieve stability and progress.
