Washington Credits Cindy for Shaping Today’s Female Artistes

Producer Washington has credited Cindy Sanyu with helping shape the rise of today’s female artistes in Uganda’s music industry.

Washington, who has produced music for stars such as Radio & Weasel, Bebe Cool, and Cindy herself, described her as a unique figure whose influence changed the path for women in the industry.

Speaking during an interview on NRG Radio, he said Cindy stands apart from other artistes because of the impact she has had on the music scene.

I cannot put Cindy in the number. Cindy is a very different kind of human being. Most of the female artistes we have today are because of Cindy.

Washington explained that before Cindy’s rise, many female musicians looked up to Juliana Kanyomozi as the main example of success in the industry.

That began to shift when Cindy introduced her energetic dancehall style and bold stage presence.

According to Washington, her influence helped inspire a new generation of female performers to develop their own identities.

He pointed to artistes such as Sheebah Karungi and Nina Roz as part of the wave of female stars that emerged during a time when Cindy’s influence was already shaping trends.

All the trends you see right now among female artistes started with Cindy way back.
