We Do Not Need Two Politicians at Home, Eddy Kenzo Explains

A growing number of Ugandan musicians are showing interest in political office, with several aiming for prominent positions in the country’s political landscape.

The most recent high-profile example is singer Stecia Mayanja, who has declared her bid for the presidential seat in the 2026 general elections.

Commenting on this rising trend, Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF) president Eddy Kenzo emphasized that musicians, like any other citizens, have the right to contest.

Singing is a job like any other. Before musicians started entering politics, we saw doctors, engineers, lawyers, and journalists do the same. We have seen people from different walks of life enter politics.

Despite acknowledging his capability, Kenzo made it clear that politics is not a path he intends to pursue.

No, I will not vie for political office. Not because I am not capable. I am very much capable. But I want to do other things, and politicians can do what they do.

He further explained to BBS TV that with a politician already in his household, it would not make sense for him to follow the same path.

Already at home, my wife walks that path because she is a minister. So I do not think it would be wise for me to walk the same path when there are other things I can do, as she also does what she does.
