Western Uganda Artistes Are Not Trying to Prove Anything at Cricket Oval, Says Omega 256
Singer Omega 256 has dismissed the idea that Western Ugandan artistes are staging concerts at Lugogo Cricket Oval in Kampala to prove a point.
Speaking to Sanyuka Uncut ahead of her debut concert at the venue on September 19, the ‘Lioness of the West’ emphasized that their motivation is not about validation.
We are not trying to prove anything. We have nothing to prove. We are simply stepping out of our comfort zone, building our industry, and selling our culture. We want people to know that Runyankole is a beautiful language.
Asked why it has taken Western Ugandan artistes time to start organizing shows in Kampala, Omega 256 said that she could only speak for herself.
I was preparing myself and waiting for the right time, when I have enough music and when people know it. I believe this is the right time.
Omega 256 is not the only Western Ugandan artiste making major moves in the capital this year.
Mbarara’s very own Taremwa Paul, alias T-Paul, also has a concert at Lugogo Cricket Oval on August 22, 2025.
