Why Elijah Kitaka Believes Albums Hurt Good Songs

Elijah Kitaka has opened up about how music fans in Uganda engage with streaming, especially regarding albums, EPs, and singles.

When asked if Ugandans prefer streaming full albums or just singles, the singer gave a thoughtful answer.

He said that it really depends and that the way music is released plays a big role.

The “Ekyange” hit-maker explained that sometimes artistes release their songs one by one, then later group them as an album.

This new way of releasing music is different from the traditional album drop, where all songs come out at once.

He also shared his opinion that albums most times work against good songs.

“As a creative, I feel like albums most times kill very good songs because we focus on a few and leave a few to just hang there, so people can listen to them,” he explained.

On the streaming culture itself, Kitaka said it is definitely growing in Uganda.

Looking at his own stats on platforms like iTunes and Spotify, he has noticed more people are streaming music now.

“I feel like I appreciate that now people are more into streaming music. The streaming culture is there,” he added.

However, Kitaka pointed out that the way music is released still influences how much listeners engage with it.

If artistes carefully think about their release plans, they can reach more fans and make sure all their songs get heard.
