Why Jamal Wasswa Is Selective About Where He Performs
For fans who rarely see Jamal Wasswa performing in certain local spots, there is now an explanation.
In a recent interview with Execlusive Media, the Ugandan soul and R&B singer explained that he is selective about the stages he steps on.
For him, quality comes first.
Because of that, he said there are venues he chooses to avoid since the sound and overall setup do not meet his standards, even when the pay is good.
Jamal believes constant performances in poorly organized spaces can hurt an artiste’s brand.
If fans keep seeing you in places with weak sound and production, he feels it becomes harder to convince them to buy tickets for your shows.
Sometimes there are stages we do not perform on because of quality, regardless of the money. I think that is why people continue loving us. You find someone performing almost everywhere, even where they should not, not even minding the quality of the sound. So how do you expect people to pay money to come and see you at your show? It is almost impossible.
By limiting where he performs, Jamal says he protects both his image and the experience his audience expects.
